10 minute intervals

25/11/04

Similar session to 11/11/04 but without the 1 minute recoveries between the 5 minute efforts.

After 3km warm up, run hard for 5 minutes and then turn around and run straight back to where you started. Hit the same mark as first attempt two weeks ago but came up a fair bit shorter on the return. A combination of going out a bit too hard and a headwind on the return probably contributed. The second 10 minute effort was a lot better paced. Came up about 15-20 metres shorter than first time but was about 2 seconds slower on the return meaning that pacing was a lot better.

This speedwork is starting to give me a lot of confidence with my pacing. I am now starting to get a good gauge on pace. It is amazing the difference of what going slightly over your anaeorobic threshold makes. It is a very fine line.

I am now looking forward to these sessions as I am learning to run at a high pace and stay in control. The opportunity for improvement is only limited by how much you are willing to push yourself.

The next couple of days are going to be run at an easy pace as I am learning that your easy days are just as important as your hard days.
