1km intervals - 2 sesssions

31/12/04

What better way to finish 2004 than with 2 interval sessions.

Because of the Cool Running 5km challenge on Monday, this week's training has been put back a day. I had my interval session scheduled for yesterday so had to do it today. And Friday is the day I run with my wife to support her in staying focussed while she does hers.

So out to Timbrell Park this morning for 5x1km intervals with 90 second rest between each one. Was aiming to do each one in around 3:45. Started off in 3:42 then next one in 3:43. Then from the third they started to drift a bit and third one was run in 3:46 followed by a 3:48 for the fourth before finishing the fifth in 3:53 to give me an average of 3:46.5.

Pretty pleased with the session but would have liked to run the last one a fraction quicker as I wasn't as knackered aerobically as I usually am when I do these but the legs just got heavier as the session went on. Something to work on next week as I have 2 interval sessions scheduled.

Then up the road later in the day to help Belinda through 4x1km intervals where she was able to run her fastest 1km rep but couldn't maintain the pace as her legs were still feeling heavy from Wednesday's Lilyfied Rd hill reps.

This gave me a daily total of 19km with warmups and warmdowns included which has brought monthly total up to 338km.

Great way to finish my first full year of running since 1990. PBs in 3km, 5km and a recent PB in 10km and that time is getting closer to PB set in 1990.

I am really enjoying my training at the moment and am looking forward to Canberra where Belinda will run her debut marathon 10 days after our 20th Anniversary.

Comments:
Congratulations on a Great year in 2004 Horrie.
338 K's for December is pretty impressive.
All the best for 2005.
Eddie
