Cool Running 5km Challenge

27/12/04

After running 30km yesterday, was thinking that a sub 20 was going to take some effort.Headed out with sub 20 group with Ray James agreeing to run even 4 min/km splits to help those who have problems with pacing. This seemed to help everybody in group hold a nice even pace. Thanks Ray.

Whilst running the first 3km, was doing my best to tag along at the back of the group as the legs were quite clearly telling me they didn't want to run that fast. But as soon as we overtook Johnny Dark, started to forget about legs and just set my sights on overtaking anybody within sight. Overtook everybody running in 20 minute group with the exception of Blue Dog and Superflake who always seemed to be slightly ahead of the main group. As I ran past Kevin, he muttered something about this supposed to being the sub 20 minute group to which I replied it is the sub 20 group and just kept running. Colin flew past around the 4km mark and was moving very well. Uncle Dave ran past as though I was nailed to the ground. I just kept running and continued to pass the over 20 minute runners and almost caught Colin back up at the end to finish in 19:34, which is a 14 second PB.

Feeling quite ecstatic about the run considering I ran 30km yesterday. All I can say is that the speedwork and fitness is kicking in which is allowing me to maintain consistency in my pace.

Comments:
Great effort Horrie. Congratulations on the PB. the training is certainly going well for you.
