SMC 10km race
19/12/04
Another great day out at industrial Smithfield.
Cool runners by the thousand including ultra legends Mister G and Uncle Dave doing a 10km stroll. And we are being noticed by the SMC people who I had a bit of banter with about the talk of the Half course being short as well as the results not being up quick enough. All in all a great morning out.Managed to run 42:07 which is an 11 second PB in this running life. A little bit disappointed that I wasn't able to crack 42 like I had planned, but happy with the run overall. Didn't run with a watch today so just ran to how I felt and tried to judge pace intuitively which has not been my strongest point up to date. I found the middle 5km quite challenging as the inclines aren't huge but they are big enough to ask you a few questions. Overcame this and happy with how I finished, which was a lot better than usual, especially considering how warm it was out there.
Considering I beat my PB this running life which was set around the time I had run Gold Coast Marathon, I am very happy to be at this level 4 months out from Canberra. Am looking forward to continue to build base for a really strong Marathon at Canberra as well as the challenge of knocking off 10km PB which was set 14 years ago.

Well done on the PB Horrie. You are certainly charging forward for your Canberra goal.
Sounds like you are still using Pat's program. I am sure with that and all your hard efforts you will really enjoy Canberra.
Fantastic effort, keep it up, it's encouraging to us all.

Well done Horrie, I had you in my sights the whole way and just could not bridge the gap coming home. Signs are certainly looking good for Canberra, just wait until the first 10km at Lane Cove.
