The Horrie Curse continues

19/2/05

We did our usual Saturday night twilight run. A very easy 7.5km in drizzly conditions which was quite pleasant.

20/2/05

It seems the Horrie Curse continues.

After being well on target for a sub 2:30 covering 17.8km in 1:45, Belinda was really starting to notice some pain in her right ankle and was having trouble maintaining the pace we had been running at. Up until this point, we'd been running with Plu and having a great time. There was a small hill at this point and Belinda was really starting to feel it and was slowing noticably. I left Plu and went back to her and tried to encourage her to push through the pain if she could. I told her not to worry about the pace and just run at whatever pace was comfortable. Unfortunately, the slower she ran, the more intense the pain got. With the adrenaline stopping and body temperature dropping, it was getting worse. She then decided to walk which reduced the pain a litte bit. After walking for about a km, I tried to encourage her to see if she could shuffle without too much pain. She was able to do this for about a km until she had to pull the pin as the pain got unbearable. We then walked the last 4.5km to finish in around 3:04. O Runner drove back to offer us a lift but with only about 500m to go, Belinda was determined to finish saying quite clearly that she didn't want a DNF. Something in our genes about quitting I guess.

We grabbed some fruit and continued to walk back to the clubhouse to avoid cooling down too much, chatted to a few who were still there, including Blue Dog who was waiting for a well deserved massage after a stormer of a run following his 6 Foot Track run on Wednesday. Blue Dog, please do us a favour and try to take it easy and taper properly for 6 Foot Track race in 3 weeks as I want to see you go sub 5 there.

As mentioned in earlier posts, there were some great runs out there today. And for those who didn't meet your goals today, take a bit of time to reflect and recover properly as it was extremely humid out there today. You will have better days as you are too good to let a bad run keep you down.

Comments:
Horrie don't worry about today. It's just a fork in the road to Canberra. Something to overcome and keep going with the training. That's for Belinda BTW. Keep training well and you should be ok at Canberra.

Keep the ice up to Belinda's ankle Horrie. the healinf qualities of ice are nothing short of miraculous.

Horrie, how is Belinda's ankle this morning? Were you able to find out what caused the trouble & what sort of injury it is? Hoping, of course, that it's something minor.. LL

I hope it turns out to be nothing serious for Belinda.

Gee what have you guys done lately run over a few black cats or something??
