Midweek long run

23/2/05

In preparation for the 6 hour Metrogaine with O Runner on Sunday, I thought I would take my run longer and later to try and simulate the same running conditions as Sunday. Metrogaine is run between 10 and 4.

I also wanted to get a feel for running again at my long run pace as the ones I've done over the last couple of weeks have been at Belinda's pace.

So I decided to do a variation on the Striders STaR - The Tourist Trot 25km option. Followed the course until I got to the city and as I didn't fancy running through the city on a weekday, decided to head down Art Gallery Rd and run around Mrs Macquaries Chair and Farm Cove before crossing the Cahill Expressway to get onto the Harbour Bridge, return when I got to the Milson's Point end and head back through The Rocks, around the Opera House, through Woolloomooloo and Kings Cross before passing Aussie Stadium, the SCG and Fox Studios before re-entering Centennial Park. This variation enabled me to run 24.5 km in 2:05 at an average pace of 5:07 per km. Felt fine throughout apart from my calf bothering me a bit in the last 10km.

It was a great hitout and one that has given me a lot of confidence ahead of going into the Metrogaine on Sunday.

Planning on doing only a couple of light runs for the rest of the week leading in so I am fully rested and ready for being on my feet for 6 hours come Sunday.

Comments:
Was fat bloke sighted? Good run mate. Love that hard hill up to the cross from the naval base.
