Recovery swim and back into it

31/1/05

After yesterday's debacle, I decided to go back to my Monday swim as I remember the legs always felt better after swimming 1km than before I started. Very relieved to say that's exactly what happened. The best way to describe the effects of the swim on the legs is like getting a light massage. I have now recovered from yesterday and would like to thank all the people who posted on my blog and sent me messages. It really helped me get over the psychological effects a lot quicker. It is amazing but I really feel that Cool Running is like having an extended family. Looking forward to getting to know everybody a little better as we keep enjoying our running.

Back into it with a bang today. Today's session was down as a FAST session (Pat's words not mine). 3X1km intervals followed by 2X500m intervals although he did say not to worry about the pace of the 500m reps. After a 3km warmup where I felt surprisingly good, ran the first rep in 3:34. After a 90 second recovery, managed to run the second in 3:34 as well. Another 90 second recovery and managed to run the last one in 3:43 which really hurt. I then extended the recoveries for the 500m reps as I wanted to run them in good form rather than just bloody mindedly pushing myself back to where I was on Sunday. I ran the 2X500m reps in 1:48 and 1:53 to finish the session with an average pace for the reps of 3:38 per km which is 8 seconds per km quicker than the last time I ran 1km reps, although I ran 5 that day. So I guess I did run the session fast and am on track for a strong Lane Cove 10km this Saturday.

Thanks for your comments to me Horrie.

I really am improving heaps due to all the support from my running groups – including CR.

It helps to have your progress monitored and commented on. Really makes the good (and bad) days all worth it!

Its great when you have a session like your 'fast' one this morning and you can just pull a good one even when you least expect it. Well done.

Great to see you are back on track. Little set backs make us more determined to succeed and I'm sure you will at the 10k. Looking good for a fast one on Saturday.

Thanks for visiting my Blogg and the positive comments you make - it does help to have anothe perspective - glad to see that one days 'rest' can result in a great turnaround from Sunday to Tuesday. No matter how experienced we are we can all make mistakes and learn from them.
