The end of the PB chase

23/4/05

After running very strongly for the last couple of months, including 6 Foot Track Marathon and Canberra Marathon, I was again undone by a short race. This time a 7km effort. Again, the mistake was not drinking anything during the run. I now have to accept that my body will not allow me to run as fast as I can without risking further damage.

All is not lost because I have realised over the last few months that I can still run at medium intensity without any problems. So my future will definitely be spent running within my limitations.

For the record of the race, I managed 29:07 for a third place in my age category.

Comments:
You can't say end Horrie. But it can mean a new beginning. Maybe you become the trail master and do ultras like Spud and Mister G.
Hope to still see you at North Head in a couple of weeks.

That's great, Horrie...3rd place age-category! Woo-Hoo!

Just read your comment on my blog re Canberra 2006! (*Hugs*)
I still laugh about Tim's idea of a presidential entourage..I can really see it happening!

Don't forget to drink during your next race! Hope Belinda's ankle is better & that she is soon back running with you.

There never seems to be an end to the lessons we learn while running. Running seems to cause us to confront many issues, whether they be physical or mental.

These blogs help us to realise that each one of us have overcome so many obstacles as we work our way to our individual goals. The sharing of experiences, ups and downs, joy and sorrow, defeats and triumphs has been a great help and source of inspiration to me.

Horrie, I've been away and only now have had a chance to catch up with the bloggers. I hope your experience was not as bad as at Lane Cove and you have my respect for the way you are approaching things. Now if only I can run as well as you have been at "medium intensity" I'll be happy!!
