Striders 10km at the Domain
2/4/05
What a great morning to be out and about running around our beautiful city. It was again a huge turnout and plenty of Striders/Cool Runners showing their colours.
After getting no takers for the 44 minute train, I thought I would try and keep up with Mr G. The first km was quite slow as it was a tight course and with plenty of runners, very congested. Spent the first km slowly weaving my way through the field and covered it in 4:29. Got a sighting of the G Man and set about trying to reel him in and covered the next 2km in 4:05 and 3:55. Just as I almost caught him at the end of the first lap, decided to stop and have a drink at the drink stop. I made sure I walked as I wanted to get it all down my throat this time. After a drink, looked up and Mr G was about 100m ahead so I spent the next km chasing him again. I managed to catch and pass him running through the Domain and he asked me what happened to my 44 minute train. I told him that I had no takers. Then as we were running down towards Boy Charlton Pool, my shoelace came undone so I had to stop and tie it up. Again I looked up and Mr G had passed and was now about 30m in front of me. I was just behind him again as we finished the second lap. I again stopped to take in more water and again when I looked up he had increased his lead to over 100m. So again I took off after him and continued to chase him for the last lap. I almost caught him at the finish but he ended up about 10-15m ahead. I forgot to stop the watch when I finished but a guess of the time was in the low 42:50s. A great run on a great morning and a nice hitout leading into Canberra.
