Belinda's Brilliant PB at Lane Cove 10km

4/6/05

What a great morning it was to be running around the misty cool air at Lane Cove this morning.

After reading last night that there was going to be a 55 minute train, we decided to hop on the back carriage and see if we could hold on. We lined up with Bridget the 55 minute pacer and went through the first km just over 5:30. Then she started to pull ahead in the second km which made Belinda think that we were slowing down. But when we reached the 2km mark in just under 11 minutes, I assured her that we were on pace but Bridget had opened up a 20 second lead on us. Then we battled through the undulations for the next 4km where we lost just over a minute and were now tracking for 56 minutes if we held 5:30 kms. We were aided by the downhills over the last 4km and gradually whittled away the time we lost going uphill. Each km was getting a bit quicker so when we reached 9km in 50:15, I thought 55:30 would be good. However, Belinda was really able to bring it home well and with Bridget waiting not long before the finish and then the announcers talking about the 55 minute train coming in, Belinda really picked it up to run the last km in sub 5 for her quickest km by a long way to finish in 55:08. This meant she had smashed her PB set on a flat Homebush course at the Nike Run That You Want by 1:17 and absolutely smashed her Lane Cove PB by over 2 minutes. I just want to thank everyone for their support out there this morning and Belinda is just totally overwhelmed by the whole experience and it is something we will never forget.
