End of week wrap

17/6/05

We headed out for our 10.5km loop this morning. Belinda was very light on her feet and certainly felt the benefit of her rest day yesterday. Looked like she may have been heading for a training PB but plenty of talk ensured that the pace stayed at a more respectable level. This was good considering we have our long run tomorrow.

18/6/05

We headed out nice and early for our own Harbourside Hike STaR. We planned to do the 24.6km option B. However, a few wrong turns and missed turnoffs meant we ended up doing a bit of all 3 options. Ended up running 24.2km in just over 3 hours. It was a fairly hilly course which is only rated a H3 by the Striders but you are constantly running up and down hill for a lot of the run. You also tend to run around in circles quite a few times so it makes it a difficult run to find any rhythm. That combined with my poor navigational and map reading skills made this a slow run. The best thing to come out of today was it was the first time Belinda had run for more than 3 hours and the benefit of running for this amount of time is more important than the pace you are running. She has also pulled a lot better than usual after a long run as it didn't bash her around as much as usual. She is definitely getting stronger. 2 more weeks of 25km long runs before we move up to 30km runs. Things are building nicely for Sydney but we just need to keep a lid on it as it was around this time in her Canberra preparation where she got struck down with injury. The good thing this time is she knows what she is in for and her body is a lot stronger now and she is recovering a lot quicker.

Comments:
It's good to hear that the training is progressing so well Horrie. The good solid base work you are putting in with Belinda will see her readily achieve the longer distances.

The short option always gets you somewhere. Lost maybe. Looks like Sydney training is going well for both of you. Keep it up.
