City 2 Surf and beyond

30/7/05

We paid Steve a visit at Athletic Edge in Randwick and got some new 2100s as we were both in need of a new pair. Belinda bought her last pair in February and I got mine the week after 6 Foot Track. I calculated that I had run over 1200km in mine so no wonder they had lost their cushion.

A quick trip down to Queens Park where the Clovelly Canter starts for our long run. Today we decided to run into the city, run the City 2 Surf and then head back up Bondi Rd and down past Aussie Stadium before turning back along Anzac Pde and head back to Queens Park. I estimated this to be around 30km. The GPS measured it at 29.67km so not far off.

We were flying in the beginning as the spring we got from our new shoes certainly had an effect. The pace slowed once we started the City 2 Surf as we rolled up and down all the undulations. Belinda ran all the hills solidly so by the time we got to Bondi and started the climb out of Bondi she was starting to hurt. Ran through Bondi Junction and headed along the outside of Centennial Park down past Aussie Stadium before turning up Anzac Pde to head back to the start. Covered 29.67km in 3:09 so a 25 minute improvement on last week and the course was probably a little tougher so a great run from Belinda. She did comment towards the end that it is not getting easier despite this being her 4th 30km run. I just had to nod and agree as no many of these runs you do you are always spent at the end. I reassured her that she was getting a lot stronger and fitter as she improved 25 minutes on last week despite it being later in the day. We finished around 1pm and it was quite warm and the salt was caked on us after we had lost it through sweat. She is really looking forward to Willy to Billy as she wants to feel what it is like to go beyond 30km. She might change her mind after running the last 7km that day as it is not pretty.

Comments:
Well run there kids. That's a hilly 30k, good preparation for Sydney.

Some run alright, Horrie & Belinda! Good luck & will look forward to hearing how you both go at Willy to Billy.

Horrie/Belinda

Wow! 25 minute improvement on a tougher run. Perfect preparation for September. Horrie mate you are putting the rest of us MMs to shame with your commitment to Belindas training, just awesome mate. As far as the runs not getting easier, I really relate to that, I think part of your head tells you we should be doing it easier with all the preparation, however I think you just go a bit quicker for the same amount of pain!
