Sutherland to Surf
24/7/05
Finally got to complete late entry just in time as I was left standing like a shag on a rock at Wanda after agreeing to meet Superflake and O Runner at Wanda at 7.30.
It was a very well organised run and everything flowed once I got there. Lined up with O Runner and Professor at the start. Professor took off like a scolded cat while O Runner and I did our best not knock some little kids flying. (Why they start so close to the start is beyond me.)Once I got some clear ground around the 1km mark, I decided just to roll along on the downhills and see what happens. What happened was I managed to go through the first 4km in a tick under 16 minutes. I slowed a bit when we got to the first uphill and decided to back it off a bit as I wanted to remain within my limitations. I passed Sportsman around the 5km mark as he was having some problem with his calf. Kept running at a sensible pace and finally caught Professor at the 8km mark as he stopped to have a drink. Got through the 10km mark in 41:40 which is 15 seconds quicker than I ran my RB at SMC earlier in the year. (Who said the only way to get faster is doing speedwork?) Then came that uphill in the last km I decided to again back off as I was reaching my anaeorobic max. Was rapt to finish in 45:50, which was 4 minutes ahead of expectations.
Great to catch up with everybody afterwards and enjoyed watching the presentation with Superflake, Sportsman, Blue Dog and Bernie G before heading off. A great way to finish a great morning.

Great run there Horrie. Sorry about the start pickup mate. I thought the course was harder than I was lead to believe. Sure it had it's downhills but also had half dozen hills to make you work.
