Belinda's campaign stalled

25/8/05

Belinda wasn't up to running today so I headed out on my 10.8km loop and ran in it around 52 minutes. I took it a bit easier today and just drifted along.

26/8/05

Headed out with Belinda on the 10.5km loop with her right calf causing her grief. It was slow going and not running the last couple of days didn't help it as much as we hoped. She was pushing through until just after 3km when her back spasmed. This was caused by the adjustment to her gait and this put extra pressure on the lower back. We turned around and walked/shuffled back home. Belinda will try a stretching/massage regime to try and loosen the calf up to try and get it right for 2 weeks time. Her leg has been causing her problems for a while now but the hitout at Willy 2 Billy hasn't helped.

I guess the one positive to come out of all this is she has got to the end of her long runs this time and is still able to run. We will keep her in cotton wool and hope that she recovers to be able to get to the start line in 2 weeks time.

I managed to get an 11km run done later in the morning after dropping the car off for a service. I ran this at 4:50 pace but seemed to be working harder than I have for the last couple of days.

Comments:
It's good for Belinda that all the hard work is done and you are tappering. I'm sure her body will appreciate the rest from intense training and come the big day will be rearing to go.

OMG Horrie! So sorry about Belinda's leg! The back spasm is a dreadful pain...literally; I take it for granted now that I'll get lower back spasms every time I run 'long'....goes with the territory, as 'they' say! I surely hope that with rest & taper ahead, she'll be fine for the 11th; if not, remind her that I didn't do my first marathon till I'd turned 70, so she has plenty of time!!

Dammit!

Wishing Belinda a very speedy recovery.

Cotton wool sounds like the order of the day. Two weeks should also help, Willy to Billy beat me up much more than I thought.

Take it easy Belinda, the money is in the bank! Horrie good to see you this morning at the bay, a great morning to be out!
