Midweek Update

5/9/05

I headed out on the 10.8km loop this morning running conservatively. I was just happy to be running in the drizzle as it has been a while. Finished in just over 53 minutes feeling refreshed.

6/9/05

Belinda and I headed out on the 10.5km loop. It was slow going as her calf had tightened up again. I told her just to concentrate on moving forward and to keep moving forward because when it gets really tough in the marathon, that's what you have to do. The calf gradually warmed up and she was running freely just before we finished.

Belinda went to the physio and they confirmed that it is the calf muscle and nothing more sinister. He taped it up for her and gave her some exercises to do. As there is only 5 days to go, not much that can be done at this point. She just has to run through the discomfort until it warms up and hope that it is going to stay alright for the rest of the journey.

7/9/05

I headed out for a 14km midweek long run today. I wanted to run at a pace that I could feel was comfortable but able to stride out. The result was 67:40 for an average pace of 4:50 per km. I felt very relaxed all the way and was happy with the pace. I am feeling that I will start doing speedwork again after running the marathon on Sunday as I am ready to go hard again.

Comments:
Belinda,

You have done all the hard work now. It's time to enjoy the experience - have a great run on Sunday.

Horrie,

You are a legend!
