Midweek Update

20/9/05

Belinda was able to get out for her first post marathon run. She was not interested in the 'short' 6km option instead opting for the usual 10.5km loop. I warned her that she might not be feeling too flash at 7km but she just wanted to be out there doing what she enjoys.

So we headed out at a relaxed pace chatting along the way. Belinda was happy to advise there was no pain in the calf at all, which was great news. Hooray, the orthotics are working! We were able to gradually increase the pace during the run and she was still feeling quite comfortable. Finished the run 2 minutes quicker than the last 2 runs pre marathon which was a pleasant surprise. Belinda was feeling a bit tender in the ankle region which she originally damaged back in February, only it was the other leg - weird!

As I am now feeling about 90-95% healthy, decided to punch out 14km at 5 minute/km pace to see where I am at after the recent layoff caused by illness. I am happy to report that I finished the 14km a few seconds under 70 minutes which was bang on target. Felt comfortable the whole way and could have picked up the pace at any time. I feel as though I am back on target for Melbourne and am really looking forward to it.
