Spring has sprung - 1 week to go

2/9/05

We headed out on our 10.5km loop. As Belinda hadn't run for 2 days, she wanted to have a solid hitout as she was getting worried that she was getting lazy and starting to feel heavy. I reassured her that it is normal to feel this way during the taper. We settled into a solid pace right from the beginning and Belinda maintained it right throughout. It was her quickest hitout since City 2 Surf. She was pushing out of her comfort zone but was very happy to finish a good hitout with the calf no worse.

I headed out on the 10.5km loop myself this morning. I was struggling with the fact that I had to miss another Striders 10km. This time it was due to having to take registrations for Little Athletics. Finished in 49:40 with AHR of 156. Didn't feel that flash this morning and had to work harder to run that pace than I usually have to. It was probably a good thing that I didn't run North Head as there were some very quick times and I would have struggled to keep up.

4/9/05

Belinda and I headed out for 15.9km this morning at a bit over 6:30 per km pace. Belinda's calf was very tight this morning and really didn't start to loosen up until the 12km mark. She was happy that it did finally loosen enough for her to get into a decent stride and rhythm. She is finding the taper difficult as her calf feels better on the longer runs and running every second day is giving it a day in between runs to tighten up. She went and had a massage afterwards and said that it was the best it had felt in a while.

She will run twice this week and I will give her massages every night and we will be happy to get to the start line and just go with the flow on the day and get to the finish line in whatever way possible. We are looking forward to the Cool Running Cheer Squad on the Cahill Expressway and finishing at the Opera House where we will be waiting for the fat lady to sing.

Comments:
I'm glad to hear that your taper is going well and that Belinda's calf is behaving itself. See you on Sunday - I'll be the one with the pom poms jumping up and down screaming your names like a crazy woman!

All the best for a great and enjoyable race on Sunday Horrie and Belinda. Take it steady on the first half and conserve your energy for the second. I look forward to reading your report.

Hope Sunday pans out the way you both want it to guys, all the best.

Have a great race!
