Belinda begins speedwork
17/10/05
We were greeted by a wet Monday morning. Not exactly the motivator you need when you are going to tackle a hill rep session. We still managed to drag ourselves out, the lunatics we are. We began with a 2km warmup before tackling 10 hill reps which were a bit slower than last week before heading home with a 2km warmdown. I thought it was great that Belinda finished the session as it would have been easy to roll over and go back to sleep once she heard the rain.

We ran our 10.5km loop at 6 minute pace. During the months we have been doing this run we have managed anywhere between 60 and 70 minutes. I am asking Belinda to be disciplined and run at a nice steady pace which is not too slow or too fast. We held the pace consistently all the way through which is what I was hoping for.

I decided to reintroduce Belinda to intervals after an 8 month break. As her leg is feeling a lot better and the niggles are slowly disippating, she is back running 3 days in a row. I told her that she might as well make hay while the sun shines and take advantage of being injury free by training hard.
We headed out for 6X500m intervals with a minute standing recovery. After going out too hard in the first and blowing up, Belinda managed to finish the 6 strongly at an average of 2:37 per rep, which gave her average speed of 5:14/km which is what I thought she was capable of.

Another lunatic here - I was out in the pooring rain this morning and loved it!!
Belinda, your running is going from strength to strength. I'm really looking forward to following your journey to, and then cheering you on at, 6ft!!

Sounds like you're working poor Belinda very hard at the moment :)
Glad to hear she is doing so well and is niggle free.. long may it continue. Hope to catch up with you both at Maroubra on Sunday.

Speedwork... really should get motivated to do some of that myself! Belinda sounds like she's lucky to have you :)
