Finishing touches on Melbourne preparation
6/10/05
Today was the last run before Melbourne. I wanted a sharpener but I didn't want to push too hard in case of injury. Started off with a 3km warmup.
I decided to do 15 minutes of 30 seconds efforts followed by 30 seconds jog recovery. I changed the emphasis from outright speed to consistency of efforts. I am pleased to report that 12 of the 15 efforts were within 8 metres of each other, with another 2 only 5 metres behind. So another key session achieved its objective. Then finished off with a 3km warmdown.
I am happy with the way I have wrapped up the preparation. The last 3 key runs have gone exactly to plan. I realise that I am not in the best shape I have ever been in. But I am hopeful that experience gained from my previous marathons and a more conservative first half will see me finishing stronger on Sunday. If I finish 5 minutes either side of my PB, I will be a very satisfied runner on Sunday afternoon.
My mantra for this marathon will be NO EXCUSES.
