Last long run before Melbourne

2/10/05

I decided to run 20km this morning at Marathon Pace today as I have not done much quality training since Sydney. Reached 5km in 24:39 averaging 4:56/km feeling pretty relaxed. I started to notice a headwind running along here but didn't mind it as I found it refreshing. I hit the half way point in 49:31, which gave me a 24:52 5km split. I was happy with the even pace.

I hit a mental low just after the halfway point and slowed from my even paced running, slowing in the next 2km to 5:10/km. I had to remind myself what I was trying to achieve from today's run and lifted it back up a notch. From 12-19km, I was again very consistent with my pacing, clocking km splits between 4:49 and 4:52/km. I crossed paths with Lulu around the 16km mark as she ventured out to Malabar for her Sunday morning long run. A couple of minutes later I saw Mr Lulu looking very strong chasing her down. Finished the last km in 4:38 as it is aided by a downhill finish.

Stats for the run were 20km in 1:38:36 at an average pace of 4:54/km and an average HR of 157.

This has given me a good guage of where I am heading into Melbourne and provided exactly what I needed.

Comments:
It is so apparent that running is 90% (or something!) mental; great pace for the the 20k Glenn, best wishes for Melbourne, I will be thinking of you.

Good luck Horrie and hopefully it all comes togther for you! Enjoy the run and I look forward to reading about it!
