Marathon Recovery and trying to keep up with Belinda
10/10/05
Headed out early for a 4km walk with the dog in the Nike Frees. This got the blood flowing through the legs. Then a couple of hours later I churned out a very slow 1km swim. Despite swimming in the slow lane, I was still being lapped by the only other swimmer in the lane. I thought if he was slow and lapping me, then I must be super slow. I might have to approach the pool next time and ask if they can designate a super slow lane.

I headed out with Belinda on our 10.5km loop. I was looking forward to a nice leisurely run to continue the recovery. But as Belinda had the last 3 days off, she was feeling very fresh. This meant that we started a bit quicker than usual. I noticed that we picked up the pace a bit in the 2-5km period. I asked Belinda how she was feeling and she said great. I told her this was the quickest I could remember running this run with her and asked her if she wanted to push on. She decided to keep the tempo upbeat and ran the hill between 5 and 6km solidly. I noticed that we were quite a bit ahead of where we usually go through 7km. So I just kept the pace consistent and it felt good to stretch the legs out. We got to 9km in 52 minutes and I said if we pushed it hard to home, she would do this run in under an hour. She told me I was the coach and just lead the way. I held the pace consistently at 5:20/km and we got home 6 seconds before the hour mark. It was a great way to end the run and a good confidence boost for Belinda to crack 55 minutes at Lane Cove. It was also a pleasant surprise that I was mentally fresh after the marathon. This has been the quickest I have ever recovered from a marathon, which is fantastic.

Horrie, not surprised you are recovering quickly from the marathon, you went into it with a good solid aerobic base.
Good running Belinda, you should give sub 55 a good crack at Lane Cove.

One slow, one fast. I like balance in a relationship :-). As for being slow in the pool, did you ask the other guy how his marathon went ?? Congrats on Melbourne Horrie - I enjoyed your tale. As for you Belinda, you must be looking forward to Lane Cove.
