A marathon weekend to finish the week off

28/10/05

We headed out on our 10.5km loop staple run. We backed off a fraction on the pace of Tuesday's run and chatted throughout. Despite doing this, we still managed to maintain sub 6 minute kms. A very enjoyable run.

The plan was to head out to the bay and do our own 5km challenge earlier than the official challenge so we could still get the kids to their Saturday sporting commitments. Unfortunately, the planets didn't align and that idea got canned.

Instead, I headed out on my own to run down to Maroubra, along the coastline to Clovelly before heading up Clovelly Rd to Randwick before heading back out to my Bay (Little). Total run was 22km completed in 1:55 averaging 5:13/km, which I was very pleased with considering the hills on this run.

Then I took Tim to Little Athletics where he did his Lapathon which is run as many laps as you can in an hour. I am very pleased to announce that Tim managed 15 to give him 6km for the hour. He is now telling us he is going to do City 2 Surf next year. We told him that it would be possible for him if he does a lot more training between now and then. He told us he is starting now.

With a bit more time on our hands this morning, we decided to head to Bondi again and do the Surf to City to Surf run we originally planned for last week. We headed off in overcast but quite humid conditions. Soon enough it was drizzling rain which we found quite refreshing and was a relief compared to the saturated humidity we were feeling before this. Running through Darlinghurst Belinda started to feel a bit of pain in her knee. She overcame this by switching to the footpath and just continued on. She was concerned that it was a lot slower than when we did this section last week. I told her it was only a fraction slower and not to worry about it as it was more important to run for 2 hours. After not missing a bit running up Heartbreak Hill, she found an extra gear and really stepped up the pace from this point. Then when we got to Bondi, she found an extra gear and must have been close to her 10km pace. Unfortunately the GPS died just before this so I was unable to see exactly how fast she was going. One thing I was sure of is that she left me in her dust and I was struggling to keep up with her on what were now very tired legs. Finished the run which was approximately 21km in 2:15.

This gave me a total of 43km for the weekend in 4:10. Hence the reference to a marathon weekend in the heading of this post.

Comments:
'Yay' to Tim for his Lapathon! That's fantastic that he not only has a goal of C2S, but he wants to start training now.

Wonder where he gets his insiration from ;-)

Belinda, you are on fire!

Congratulations to Tim - I'm sure you are both a great inspiration to your kids.

Mate, you may have to get Belinda to pace the 50 minuters on sat! Keep it up all the Horries, hope to catch up with both of you on sat.
