And another week goes by

6/12/05

As Belinda wasn't feeling the best, I headed out for 10.5km on my own. Ran it steadily and finished just on 53 minutes.

7/12/05

Belinda was determined to push past not being able to run yesterday. So it was off to do hill reps at Maroubra. She really struggled on the first 2 before blowing up on the 3rd. We called it quits there and slowly jogged back to the car.

8/12/05

We headed out on our 10.5km loop today. We headed out at a steady pace and maintained it throughout. Belinda was happy to get through the run feeling okay.

9/12/05

Today we decided to run our 10.5km loop as a fartlek session. After a 3km warmup, we started the first of 6 x 2 minute efforts with a jog recovery between each one. Belinda was still lacking a bit of zip but pushed as hard as she could on the efforts. She really found the last one tough as it was uphill. Finished off with a 4km run home.

10/12/05

As we both had work Christmas parties on tonight, we thought it would be a good idea to do our long run this morning. We decided to run to Bronte Beach and back. We ran down to Maroubra before heading around the coastal walk to Bronte before heading back up a monster of a hill in McPherson St and then up and down Arden St before heading back down around Maroubra Beach and back home. We ended up covering 24.4km in just under 2:50 for a tough run. The good sign was that Belinda just kept ploughing on after running all the climbs. This is what 6 Foot Track is all about. Just keep moving forward, accept that the climbs are going to slow you down but just keep ploughing on.

11/12/05

After not running in the morning due to the office festivities last night, we both felt like a run towards the end of the day. I wanted to keep my program of 40km+ weekends so I was keen to do another 20km+ run. Belinda felt like doing a 10.5km loop again as new shoes and a new Fuel Belt had her primed and rearing to go. So I decided to head off for 14km on my own before coming back home and running 10.5km with her. The legs felt a bit heavy to begin with but loosened up after a while. I locked into 5 minute pace and manage to keep it there for the whole 14km, finishing in 69:58 - how's that for pacing. Belinda was waiting out the front so when I reached home we just continued on. I was able to use this as a recovery run and Belinda was able to lock into a quicker pace than usual because I was full of adrenaline. This resulted in a sub 6 minute per km hitout which was outstanding for Belinda as she had run a tough hilly 24.5km the day before. The new shoes and Fuel Belt certainly did the trick and I commented that it was great she had her mojo back. It was a nice way to finish the week.

Comments:
And a good week it was. Hope you too stayed out of trouble down near Maroubra. SMC should be a goer as I think I'm allowed to run 50mins that day. See you at that one, and I promise not to be beaten by Prof and Papa Luigi.

What a great week Horrie. I have been thinking a lot lately about Blacks Range and your words "just keep plowing on after running all the climbs" couldn't be truer.

Just noticed you are doing Gosford 12 hour - seriously contemplating making that my dark side debut too :-)

Good to hear you are keeping the 40+ weekends up Horrie. Well done to Belinda too.

Gee, wish I could join you at the 12 houry at Gosford, it would be perfect training for my 12 own houry at Caboolture in Feb.

Keep up the great work. Reading about what you are up to makes me realise I have to start doing something similar. Thanks ... I think.

Er, that was meant to be 'my own 12 houry'. I need a proofreader :-)

Sounds like a great weeks training. I know all about the hill on Macpherson St seeing as we live on the top of it. Can't get back home without doing either Bronte or Macpherson Street hills, although I usually take the easier route and go through the cutting rather than that nasty steep bit at the beach end of Macpherson Street. Bronte Road hill is a good one to train on as well as you can go all the way up to Charing Cross if you want a nice long one!

Glad Belinda has her mojo back, can she send it round to our place next please?

A very full week Horrie & Belinda. It's great that things are going well and you can get out there and do the K's. It is very satifying.
Merry christmas and Happy New Year.
