SMC 10km

18/12/05

Well, it was that time of the month where we all descend on sunny downtown Smithfield. There were a lot of runners out there this morning and had a bit of trouble finding parking.

Belinda came out for the first time since breaking down with her ankle injury in February. As Striders are on a break until February, I told her it was a good opportunity to see where her 10km form is at. We noticed the strong wind as we jogged over to the start. This meant good and bad news. The good being that it was a lot cooler than usual out there. The bad was that running into a strong headwind would slow you down a bit.

It didn't bother Belinda that much. She was just happy it wasn't as hot as she expected it to be. She ran very well finishing with a 1 second PB of 55:08. It is only a matter of time before she goes sub 55. Maybe next month if she doesn't over indulge over the festive season.

As for me, I enjoyed a nice even paced run, going through halfway in 22:04 and finishing in 44:12. This was the goal for today after I lost a minute on the return 5km last month. I felt strong throughout, even though I am still lacking a fair bit of top end speed at the moment. It is amazing how it felt easier today than when I ran a minute slower last month. I guess the easier week's training and over indulging at various Christmas parties proved successful.

Congratulations to you both on great runs today. Belinda, you have gone from strength to strength this year. I am very much looking forward to following both of your journeys in the new year.

I also have to thank you both for your encouragement and support throughout the year. It is truly appreciated :-)

Merry Christmas and a wonderful new year to you and your family.

It was good to catch up with you both yesterday and Belinda was looking very strong. She absolutely flew by me at the start and I'm sure she'll be unde 55mins very soon.
