The week that was
29/11/05
As Belinda's legs were still feeling the effects of our run to Cox's River and back, we opted for a very slow 7.5km this morning. We started to move a bit more fluently towards the end so the run achieved its purpose.
30/11/05
We headed out around our 10.5km loop this morning. Belinda was moving a bit more fluently than yesterday but the pace was still quite settled. The good news is her legs are starting to flush out all the rubbish.
This evening, I headed out with the MTG. I was running late from work and as Johnny Dark reported that we were doing 1km reps at Timbrell Park, I decided to head straight there, missing the 3km warmup from the meeting point. Instead I ran about a 1.5km warmup around Timbrell while I waited for the group to arrive. I soon saw them heading my way but they decided to keep running around the Bay. I finally managed to cross the road to join them and Blue Dog hung behind for a chat and a catchup as we hadn't seen each other for a while. He told me the group were doing hill reps. This news warmed my heart, especially after the climb back up from Cox's River on Saturday and the H4 Barrenjoey Bash on Sunday. Jim advised us that the faster runners would be running 4 reps of Lilyfield Rd hill while the slower runners could content themselves with 3. I decided to just run them steadily tonight as I wasn't in shape for any record attempts. I ran the 4 in 1:26, 1:31, 1:32 and 1:33 so I was pretty happy with the consistency. We finished off the evening by running back to the starting point for a good night's training. Stopped briefly to wish everybody who was doing the Central Coast Half luck with their runs on Sunday before I ran the 3km back to Timbrell Park. All up, around 14km for the evening for a good night's work.

As Belinda had shown sufficient recovery, I decided that it would be good for her to have another go at 1 minute reps with a minute jog recovery in between. This morning, we decided to run 8 as Belinda was just getting into her stride when we finished the 6 we did last time. Belinda managed to keep the pace fairly consistent and again ran the fastest one in her last. Great effort and she is running well without injury. It sure makes a difference.

We again headed out on our 10.5km loop this morning. We decided to crank it up a bit this morning and headed out quite firmly. We were probably heading for a PB for this run at halfway when Belinda decided to back it off a bit when the legs were starting to feel heavy and fatigued. This didn't bother me too much as I know there will be plenty of days ahead to really give it a good thrashing.
3/12/05
I decided to head out on my own for 20km today, running it fairly solidly but not pushing it too much. The result was 1:43, averaging 5:10 per km, so a pretty solid effort and felt quite strong at the end, which left me feeling good.

After going away for the weekend, Belinda arrived home in the late afternoon. She suggested we head out for 20km as she hasn't been able to run all weekend. With the weather the way it is, I'm not sure this is such a good idea but I agree anyway. After really struggling to get going, we got into a groove, albeit a slow one. We were doing our best to keep going and not give into 'this is too bloody hot and humid for running' thoughts that were plaguing us. We were happy to get the run done and it will be one that you store in the memory bank for when times get tough. It will do us good in the long run.

Horrie - you have been running more on your weekends than I have in my whole weeks!
Sounds like you are preparing for something :-)

That's good going, two 20k runs in two days.
Now you, er, we, have to work on doing five 20k runs in one day.

It was good to see you last week Horrie... will you be there again tonight?
Another good running week from you two... 2006 looking good!

Good to know that Belinda's legs quickly recovered from those 483 steps, Horrie!! I couldn't imagine how hard it must have been to have to go back up them!!
Really looking forward to running with you both at the "Fat Ass" Run on Jan 1st. What a way to begin another year!!
