Australia Day 4/8km
26/1/06
First up, it was Belinda's turn to have a run as she was doing the 8km. It was a very unusual course which meant the runners went past about 4 times in all. Even though Belinda went past me 4 times, I was unable to get a photo of her running. She ran well and finished in around 43:20 but didn't run into the finishing shute straight away so her official time might end up a bit out. This was over a minute improvement on the run in Centennial Park last year although this course was a lot flatter.
Next up was Tim and I doing the 4km. He was in a very excited mood and was really looking forward to the race as he was going to be running in his Cool Running singlet he got for Christmas. Each time we ran past the Cool Running Cheer Squad he got a huge cheer and he managed to pick up the pace each time he was running past them. We saw Belinda just after halfway and I told her he was on track for a huge PB as he went through 2km in just over 18 minutes. At this point he was really starting to hurt and was asking how much longer. We ran all the way down to the Fox Studios end before we stopped for a walk and a drink break coming up the slight incline. When we got to the top of the incline, I asked him for one final effort to run all the way to the finish and to put in a big surge at the end for the Cheer Squad. As we got closer to the finish, he really took off and was probably running as quickly as he runs 100m at Little Athletics. I don't know where he got the energy from as he was really knackered up until this point. We managed to finish in 36:11 which was a PB of 4:30 for him from the last time he did 4km at Maroubra 3 months ago on a very warm day and quite a hilly course.

That was such an awesome effort by Tim yesterday!!! That last little sprint was very gutsy! He is my cool runner of the week... he should have a peek at my blog!
B you are really improving! 1min pb is a fanastic effort. All that hard work is paying off. Enjoy your training camp. Sean will work you hard, but you will love it.
