First week of the taper

20/2/06

We headed out for a steady 10.5km run. Belinda was still feeling her mountain effort from Friday. I felt the pace was fairly comfortable for her but it was taking more effort out of her than expected.

21/2/06

I headed out for 10.5km on my own today as the plan for Belinda is to only run every second day. I felt happy to be moving along at my own comfortable pace, which was a bit quicker than the last time I ran on my own. I think the legs have finally decided to feel alive again following the 102km effort in the New Year.

22/2/06

It was my turn to rest today and Belinda went down to Maroubra for 6 x hill reps. A 1km warmup, then 6 very solid hill reps from her at a quicker pace than when we last ran them together. I must be slowing her down! Then a 1km warmdown before coming home and telling me how good she felt after having a break.

It was again my turn to head out on my own to run 14km at 5 min/km pace. Was pretty happy to get home in a few seconds over 70 minutes. It feels good when you can feel the rhythm of a certain pace and then just stick to it.

24/2/06

As Belinda was going away for the weekend, she decided to do her shortened version of the long run. After setting the alarm at an ungodly hour, she set off on a 20km run, which she finished in 2:06. She came home feeling fresh as a daisy and is definitely showing signs of enjoying the taper.

25/2/06

As I am unable to do my long run tomorrow, I headed out for 24km and the plan was to finish in the same time Belinda did her run yesterday. I was sitting right on 5:15 per km pace when Superflake pulled up alongside me in his car just before the 14km mark. After figuring out who he was, I stopped for a brief chat while he was at a red light. I slowed slightly through the next 5km before pulling my finger out in the last 5km to finish in 2:07.

Comments:
Good to see you two enjoying the taper. Looking great for Six Foot in a couple of weeks. I was just trying to make you move a bit faster Horrie.

Wish it was taper time for me too!

Thanks so much for the little reminders about energy levels etc. Funny, after a marathon I expect to feel crappy for four weeks but for some reason thought I'd bounce back from Caboolture faster than that. Its so interesting to read how you recovered and what you've been doing since your big run.

Bliss! enjoy the taper. You both have put in a consistant hard effort.... you will reap the rewards!!

Enjoy the taper guys. I hope the Prank Caller isn't running the 6 foot!

Sounds like you guys are freshening up nicely - you are both going to be jumping out of your skin on the morning of the 11th!

If that week was part of a taper, then I'd hate to see a hard week ! LOL. Nice to see your both cruising however.

Take it easy now, Horrie...you have to be in good shape for Canberra remember!

I'm so sorry that I haven't dropped by lately. Life has been getting in the way!

I'm so glad to see that the taper is going well. Only one week to go now - how exciting! You are going to fly next Saturday; I can't wait to watch :-)
