Stress Fracture for Belinda
As Belinda was getting frustrated with her slow recovery from the calf problem and now the associated knee problem, she decided to make an appointment with the Sports Doctor to determine what the problem was. After an examination of problem areas, he felt that it was very unlikely to be a problem with the calf as it is too high up the leg. He then pressed and prodded around the sore area and Belinda felt pain in the bone. Then a shadow on the x-ray confirmed his thoughts that it was a stress fracture of the upper fibula. The knee problem is actually a hamstring tendon which is causing bursitis in the knee. So no running for her for a while. She will be able to cycle in 2 weeks, can swim without kicking and manage it withself massage, regular icing and voltaren gel rubbed in for 3 minutes.

Gosh, I'm so sorry to hear that. It sounds painful :-(
At least Belinda knows exactly what it is now. No doubt with the appropriate treatment and doing all the right things it will come good soon.
Sending good thoughts for a speedy recovery.

I'm so sorry to hear this Belinda. Tesso is right - at least now you know what it is and you can work on your recovery. Take care of yourself. Good thoughts coming your way :-)
Arrgh!! How frustrating for you. Like me it's a good time to develop some more patience or at least try :-)

Heh stress fracture sounds so much more important that 'sore calf'.... A true runners injury there Belinda. Gotta be proud of that :)
Now onto recover - which will be all the more easier that you know what you need to recover from!
Take it easy and enjoy not running because all too soon you will be back into it and sweating out your guts along with the rest of us.

I'd love a calf injury. Sorry to hear about the stress fracture. Is it confirmed on the bone scan yet?
Fibula that would be the other bone to mine. Bugger. Bugger.

All the best B!!! I hope that itr heals quickly!! Will you be helping on Saturday? I might see you there! BIG HUGS!!!
That's bad news Belinda. Try and enjoy the break from running. Do whatever the doc says.
Horrie, I've emailed Norma's schedule for the 50k.

What a bummer!
Take care, Belinda. I´m sure that Horrie will make sure you recover properly before you get back into it. May your recovery be speedy!
Cheers,
Ben

Best wishes for a quick recovery B, and looking forward to seeing the whole team back running together again soon.
Well it's good to be able to nail down the cause of the problem. It really helps when you know what you are dealing with. It gives Belinda something to get her head around and deal with. Now she can manage the recovery process. This IS good.
Oh what a shame, Belinda! But I know you'll do the recovery in the same determined way you did the training for 6 foot.
Horrie, just about ready to go for "it" on Sunday week!
