The Leadup to Canberra

2/4/06

Wanted to get another feel for Luckylegs pace so headed out for the same 30km run as the week before. Was right on pace until 16km but then just didn't slow down enough in the second half, meaning I finished 11 minutes quicker than the week before. Lucky I will have Chickybabe with me in Canberra to keep me in check.

4/4/06

Headed out for 10.5km on my own and was very happy with how I felt. I am definitely starting to feel the benefits of the cooler weather, lower humidity and a kg less. I am really looking forward to training through winter and getting back to where I was a year ago.

5/4/06

I decided to include some regular bike work in my training after seeing the benefits it has done for Aunty K and Truckie. So this morning was an hour on the exercise bike. Felt great during, however the glutes were a bit tight when I finished. I am also looking forward to continuing with this cross training. Might even bring back some swimming into it soon and do a triathlon before the year is out.

6/4/06

Another 10.5km this morning and was again happy with how the run went. I am starting to feel the zest for running returning as I have been very busy with work the last couple of months. This along with Belinda's injury had take some fun out of it for me. Lucky I had running Canberra with Chickybabe to keep me going or I might have taken a break from it.

Belinda Injury Update.

Belinda's knee is still causing her some grief but is getting better slowly. She is being very disciplined and doing the core strengthening exercises every day that she has been given to aid her recovery. She says she will continue with them even when she returns to running as it is now going to be part of her training program. Even if it means less running in her training.

Canberra Feelings

I am really excited about the weekend. It has been great reading about the virgins and their preparations, especially Kit who hasn't missed a beat in training. I am also looking forward to running with Luckylegs who continues to amaze me with her physical and mental strength. After the shattering events of last year, I am so proud of her getting back on the bike and come back this year. Then she has had to deal with injury in the leadup but she just continues to fight on. Ewen has devised a run/walk plan that will hopefully see us finish the 50km in 6:35 so now it is just a matter of getting out on the road and doing what we enjoy.

As a prelude, I will also be running the 5km with Tim on Saturday afternoon and he is also very excited about the weekend.

I can't wait to get down there and seeing everybody. Only 1 more sleep.
