The week after Canberra

Well, I am still floating on air after last weekend and my feet have only touched the ground when running. Because of this exhilaration, it has been a fantastic week's running and I am really looking forward to some big events coming up. Even though Blue Dog and Eagle have pulled out of Banana Coast, I am still hopeful of running up there in 4 weeks. Just have to sort out accommodation, which shouldn't be too hard.

Belinda's recovery is coming along slowly and running again is still just a dream at this stage. She is being very positive and disciplined doing her core exercises daily and she is definitely getting stronger. She has also managed to lose 4kg since she stopped running. You try and work that out!

Tim got back into training on Tuesday night as his Little Athletics Club is doing winter training on Tuesday nights and may introduce Thursday nights if there is enough interest.

As for me, I will post below my week's training.

11/4/06

Went out on my 10.5km loop and was surprised at how good the legs felt. This has made me realise the benefit of doing your long runs at a slower pace enhances recovery and you can keep building towards bigger things.

12/4/06

Did an hour on the exercise bike just to mix it up. Right glute tight afterwards. Riding the bike sure works those muscles you don't use when running.

13/4/06

I have reintroduced a midweek long run again. I have started it off at 14km, which I will build up to 20km over the next couple of months. Again very happy with how good I felt and ended up with a 4:55/km average.

14/4/06

Back to the old faithful 10.5km loop and again very happy with how good I am feeling. Are you supposed to feel this good after running 50km 5 days ago?

15/5/06

Headed out this morning for a nice leisurely 30km that I have run in the 2 weekends leading up to Canberra. Even though I no longer have to do these runs at Luckylegs pace, I decided to keep it slow and keep the HR below 130 to ensure I can keep building in the weeks ahead. Ended up running the 30km in 3:07 with an average HR of 129.

Comments:
Hey Horrie - I reckon there is something to the slow stuff and low heartrate - in any event I'm going to include quite a bit of it over the coming weeks.

Great to hear you pulled up so well after the 50k.

I'm really pleased to hear that you pulled up so well Horrie - and Belinda, congratulations on the weight loss. Funny, I put weight ON when I stopped running !

Gosh you have recovered well!!!!

If B keeps that up she will disappear!
Give her my best :-)

Go Belinda!

Horrie, sounds like you haven't missed a beat. Good words on LLs blog :-)
