Belinda's Recovery
Sorry for not reporting on Belinda's recovery much lately but it has been slow and there has not been much progress up until now.
After going back to the Sports Doctor last week with the results of the MRI scan, he was happy to tell her that there was no major damage to the knee. He also told her a few other things that didn't offer too much encouragement.
So Belinda has decided to take things into her own hands. Even though the knee is still not right, she has decided that if she is ever to get back running, she has to accept that there will be a level of discomfort and to learn to push through it.
So on Saturday she accompanied Tim on another 5km run. She did find it difficult running at Tim's pace so decided to walk when he started to slow. Then it was a 2km walk back to the car which I parked at Timbrell Park.
Then yesterday she took Tim's Cub Pack on a 7km hike through the Royal National Park around Heathcote. She was really happy to get through the day with no pain and it just felt fatigued last night.
And today we ventured out for our first run together in almost 3 months. After quite a hectic weekend for her, I got her to agree to run 3km. I made sure we ran at Lucky Legs' talking to the cows pace. There were a couple of hills along the way. We ran the first one but then decided to walk the next two as the knee is still not strong enough to load to push off on the uphills. She felt it a bit after the walk breaks when she had to load it again to push off and run. She was happy to report that apart from the knee feeling tight and heavy, that there was no pain. A good 15 minutes of stretching afterwards and all is good in the world.
She is already planning her next run, which will be a lap of the Centennial Park path, which is 3.7km, after work on Wednesday.

So pleased to hear that you have started running again Belinda. Take it easy & listen to your body. I had the same thing when I started running again - tightness rather than pain in my knee. It faded over time as I'm sure yours will.
It was good to see you on the weekend Belinda (even if I was too out of it to talk to you :-)). Take it easy and come back strong!

That's great about Belinda being back into it, even if it is in a small way at the moment. I've spoken to others who have done a similar thing, taking their recovery into their own hands, and often with a very good outcome.
I reckon its worth a shot. Wish her luck for me.

It must have been good to be running together again. Belinda will adjust to the knee problem and find ways to manage it.
