Midweek Long Run and Hill Reps
19/7/06
I decided to run 16km as I had 80 minutes to fit a run in amongst my morning schedule. The plan again for this run was to try and bang out 5 minute kms. Started off on another wet and windy morning in the spray jacket again. Took it off around the 6km mark as the rain had steadied. Got to the 7km mark in a tick under 35 minutes but this point was the beginning of running into the headwind all the way back home. It reminded me of Melbourne Marathon again and my progress was slowed. Finally made it home in a tick over 82 and a half minutes. So ended up with an average pace around 5:10/km. Not quite the pace I was hoping for but given the wind and the heaviness I was feeling in the legs, it was a run that I was glad that was done.

This morning was my introduction to Big Bertha. It was a different session to the one Sean usually sets. It was a 3X3 lap session. I spent most of the session chasing Blue Dog, even managing to ease in front of him in the second lap of the last set. Splits for the 3 sets were 6:05, 5:54 and 6:02. I was quite happy with the session as I really concentrated on my form and felt a lot stronger than I did at KOM on Sunday. I am interested in seeing how I fare when I next run Lane Cove in August.
Belinda went out and ran 10.5km on her own and felt very strong before fading over the last couple of kms to stop the clock in 63 minutes. She thought she was running faster than she was as it was a big step up aerobically than the pace she has been running.

Good to see Blu Dog cop a beating, if only in training. Solid training going at the moment mate. Keep it up.
