Recovery
14/8/06
After putting it off and putting it off, I finally headed out for a 6km recovery run. I'm sure I looked like the Tin Man from Wizard of Oz when I started. The quads were still very tight and I could feel the blood working hard to get through. Fortunately for me, the blood started to flow through them somewhere between the 2 and 3km mark and the HR started to drop back to a fairly normal level. I was able to settle into a fairly comfortable rhythm from there and certainly felt better at the end of the run than before it.

I headed to SWEAT this morning for 35 minutes of drills on the program. But after our warmup and drills, we were given the option of doing an amble around Centennial Park staying on the grass or doing up to 7 x 800s, depending how you felt.
You won't be surprised to read that Blue Dog and I opted for the 800s. Although, I was not going to do them as hard as him. I had decided I would be happy to run them at 1:45 per lap. No thoughts of backing off for the Dog who was determined to run them at 90 seconds per lap. After I finished the first one in 3:28, Sean advised us 'slower' runners to run 600s as he wanted everybody to have the same recovery, which sometimes doesn't happen. I was not too upset by this as I was happy to be getting a good recovery and this way I could run the whole 7. The new goal was to run all 6x600s at the same pace, which equated to a 2:37 for each 600m rep. I was happy to consistently hit the mark and managed to run all 6 under that mark. I then finished off with a nice slow warmdown lap.
Splits were 3:28 (800), 2:32(a bit quick), 2:34, 2:34, 2:34, 2:35 and 2:35.

Well done on the huge weekend Horrie; deeply impressed with both days in very different ways.
Ultra machines like you and Blue Dog are making me look very soft from the training this morning.
