Big Bertha
13/8/06
No run for me today as I woke up with my right knee swollen and unable to bend properly. Sleeping is a dangerous pastime.
Belinda headed out for 7.5km on her own. She just ran at a steady pace and really enjoyed herself.

10 reps of Big Bertha was on the menu at SWEAT today for me. As Belinda's program doesn't start until next Monday, I told her Sean will probably get her to do 6 or 7 reps. WRONG! When Belinda asked him how many reps she had to do, he told her she could do 10. I congratulated her and told her to get ready to just grind them out.
As I have been on a rollercoaster recovery since Glasshouse, I didn't know what to expect today. My aim was to get through the warmup and drills and then assess whether I could do the session. I was happy to be ready for a grinding session as I wasn't expecting anything great speedwise. I just settled in behind Pres, my old football manager and tried to hang onto him. Sean was geeing us up as we went past him at the end of each rep to try and keep the reps under 2 minutes. I was happy to go through halfway in 9:58 but felt the pace dropping slightly on each rep. The pace drifted out to 2:05 at one stage but was happy to hold it and pull it back slightly to finish the 10 in 20:15 to make it a 17 second positive split. Felt pretty content at the end to run the session so solidly. After recovering, spent the next few minutes cheering in the other runners who were finishing their 10. Bernie G was looking very strong as she finished her 10. As she finished, Blue Dog and I ran down the hill as we could see Belinda descending the other side of the course. We met her down the bottom of the hill and ran the last hill with her. She had the biggest smile on her face as she finished. Sean asked her how it was and she answered HARD. We then told her the good news that these Big Bertha sessions never get easier as the fitter you get, you just push yourself harder. But these are the sessions that are going to get her to Caves House next March.

Sleeping??? Is that what they call it these days ;-)
Good luck to Belinda (and you) on Sunday. Sounds like she is in pretty good form right now. Hope you can keep up with her!

Make sure you keep your hands and feet inside the carrage at all times on that rollercoaster Horrie!
Good to see Belinda's training coming along so well - enjoy Sunday.
