Midweek update
19/9/06
After an aborted attempt to run yesterday, I headed to SWEAT with Belinda. I had 8x400s on the program while Belinda only had 4x300s.
My plan today was to try and get through the warmup and drills while Belinda was just planning to run them normally without any attempt at speed. I was happy to get through the drills without any discomfort so I thought I would have a bit of a crack. I was happy to run 86 for the first one. The pace felt comfortable so I knocked out the next 3 in the same time and the 2 after at 87. Just after starting the 7th, we were ordered off the oval by the park rangers. After hesitating for a while, I decided to complete the rep in the slower time of 93. Sean moved us up to a dirt trail around one of the lakes where we completed the final 2. With my rhythm thrown out, I struggled through the last 2 in 93 to finish the session.

After waking up with gout in the left big toe, I decided to head out for an easy half hour with Belinda. However her hamstring/glute problem that she has had for a while decided to let her know it wasn't happy with the idea of running so she pulled the pin after struggling through for 5 minutes. I decided to cut my run short and ended up running for 20 minutes.

Today we were running fartleks around the lake. The circuit was 1.450km and was divided up with 3 efforts and 3 floats at half marathon pace. This session is always one of the hardest. As usual, I took it out a bit too quick, finishing the first lap in 5:49. I was overtaken by Darren who I usually chase in this session at the end of the first lap. I then spent the next 3 laps trying to keep up with him but he just kept edging a bit further ahead each lap. Finished the 4 laps in 24:21, which was a pretty solid effort. Even though I couldn't catch Darren, I put a big gap into the runners who were behind me. I was very pleased with this.
Belinda felt much better today and ran the session again at a gentler pace but was happy to get through the session without aggravating her muscle strain.
