Painful recovery
You may remember that I was having a few issues with gout before Glasshouse. Well, it has certainly made its presence felt since. I guess running 100 miles and then consuming copious amounts of beer to recover didn't help there. So after hobbling around for a few days afterwards, I finally felt ready to run on Thursday. So I headed out to SWEAT with Belinda on what could only be described as some of the worst weather I had run in. I thought to myself throughout this session that I've finally flipped out after Glasshouse and have well and truly lost my marbles. Either that or the simple fact that I just love running. I'll let you take your pick. The session was 4 laps of a 1.5km circuit of fartlek. There was no speed to tap into so I just tried to settle into the best pace I could find and hold it, which was a fraction over 5 minutes/km pace. I had Deanne and Bernie G in my sights for the first 3 laps but the ITB started to grind and they upped the pace on the last lap to really put a big distance into me.
Friday was meant to be an easy 6km run. Well, the pace seemed easy to start with but the gout and the ITB pain only got worse from about 3km and it was quite a painful grind home. I'm now not running until everything feels ready to roll again.
As for Belinda, she is going from strength to strength. She has been to every SWEAT session for the past 2 weeks and is really starting to show the benefits of good training. She is building nicely for the Sydney Half next week. I just hope I have recovered sufficiently to be able to run with her.

Ha. I was laying in bed on Thursday morning (a rest day for me!) thinking you've have to be mad to be out running in that weather. I think it's pretty safe to say that you love your running Horrie!
Take care of yourself & I'm sure you'll be ready to run with Belinda next weekend !

Horrie, I'm surprised you can even walk, let alone run, after what you did last weekend! Maybe Belinda will be pacing you through the Sydney Half :-)
Oh, and I think your lost marbles are somewhere between Checkpoints 5 and 1A.

A bit of rest wont go astray mate and you'll be as right as rain in no time.
Good to hear Belinda is going so strong too.

Horrie:
What do they say about mad englishman and the noon day sun - I think there should be one for mad runners and torrential rain.
I am no expert and you have run more longer races than me but mate take the recovery slow particulaly with the other issue as well.

Take it easy there Horrie. A little rest never does any harm. Good luck to Belinda for the Sydney half on the weekend.
