The recovery takes a turn for the better
10/9/06
After having Saturday off, I decided to head out for a steady 10.5km. I ran it in 58 minutes and still didn't feel great but 1000% better than Friday. The gout was responding to anti inflammatories and the ITB was still a little tight.

Belinda was back after her weekend away and we ran a cruisy 6km together. The ITB is still not great but getting better each run.
12/9/06
Belinda and I headed to SWEAT this morning. I wasn't sure how things were going to go but thought it would be a good test to see if I could get through the Half on Sunday. I had a 2.6km, 2x800s and a 600 on the program. I was pretty happy that I was able to stretch out and run with a bit of pace. I settled in behind a few that I would normally beat but just concentrated on form and try to hold a solid pace. I was very relieved to get through the session without any pain. ITB still in the background but getting better each day.
Splits were 10:38 (2.6km), 3:08 and 3:16 (800s) and 2:21 (600).
Belinda did a 2.2km, 2x400s and a 600. She was flying at the end and in the last 2 reps was keeping up with me for 200m before fading slightly. She was over the moon when she ran her 2nd 400 in 1:42 and the 600 in 2:40 to be hitting sub 5 minute/km pace. She is starting to show the benefits of SWEAT. She is looking forward to Sunday and is primed for a big performance.

Glad to hear that your ITB is improving Horrie.
Good luck for Sunday Belinda. I'm sure all of your hard work recently at SWEAT is going to pay off. See you at the finish!

Horrie you are amazing! To run 160 +16(?)km with the ITB and THEN for it to disappear in just two short weeks to a slight niggle - all the while you are still running....OMG who does that???
Most of us have to have time off and cross training and blah blah blah - you are very lucky. Good to hear the speed is not hurting and you are still capable. Sensible to hold back a bit and not be running at 100% just yet. Don't wnat you overtrained or injured.
And how is that lovely wife of yours? I reckon her goal is to go past you and will achieve it soon no doubt.
SWEAT obviously helps - not just the training but the whole group motivation thing. Great to see and great to see the results coming through.
Take care all of you.
PS How is Tim going? Haven't heard about his running for a while now. Is he all keen and ready for little aths? ROCK ON TIM!!

It sounds like Belinda is running brilliantly... looking good for a great half on Sunday.
1000% is a lot Horrie. Glad you're getting back into it. Nicely paced SWEAT session.

Hope the gout improves rapidly.Have the scientists worked out what causes that condition yet???

I'll keep a look out for Belinda & you Horrie, on Sunday; hope you both have a great run. I'm doing the shortest road race of my life...9km! I might be there to welcome you both back...unless I get lost!
