Trying hard to win the mind games

22/9/06

A nice easy half hour trying to stay one step ahead of the niggles. The gout in the left big toe flared up again. Time to get back on the anti-inflams. The left ITB is still nagging away but isn't causing any great pain.

I'm trying very hard to block these niggles out of my mind but as you can read, I'm not being very successful at the moment.

The anti-inflams have worked wonders with the gout again so no pain in the left big toe. The ITB was still nagging away but I was adamant it was not going to stop me from running 12km in an hour. I went through the first 5km bang on 25 minutes. I lifted the tempo on the slight rise after 5km and was moving quite well then after a downhill was confronted with a long gradual rise with this section causing a bit more strain through the ITB and started to slow again. I was happy to get to the top and was still focussed on finishing in an hour. I was happy to hold a nice steady pace and now needed a 4:30 last km to finish in an hour. I again lifted the tempo and I noticed the ITB didn't bother me as much when I ran faster. I was happy to finish the 12.4km circuit I ran today in 60:07.

I'm heading out to SMC to run the half tomorrow and plan to run 5 minute kms with Eagle. We'll just have to wait and see how it pans out.

Comments:
Horrie, be careful that those 'niggles' don't become something more serious...you now what that means!

Take care of yourself Horrie. ITBs have a mind of their own!
