End of week wrap

1/11/06

Belinda and I both had an easy half hour on the program so ran our 6km loop. Pace was quite slow as Belinda was starting to feel the effects of a stomach bug.

2/11/06

With Belinda's stomach bug no better, I headed off to SWEAT on my own. I had 2 laps of the lake followed by an easy 1 lap because of the Striders 10km on Saturday. After the warmup and drills, Sean said that people could do 2x2 lappers if they felt like it so I decided to do this. With my confidence still high after Tuesday's session I wanted to keep the momentum going and decided that I would run both 2 lappers hard. I don't want to die wondering on Saturday, now do I? Headed out quite hard on the first one and soon realised it was probably a bit too quick and started to back off around the 1km mark. I decided to really concentrate hard on my form and try to hold the same pace. Finished the first 2 lapper in 11:27 which was really pleasing. After a 4 minute jog recovery, we were on the line again. I knew the second one would be a bit slower considering how hard I went out on the first one. So I just tried to find the pace that I ran the second lap of the first one and try to hold it for the 2 laps. The result was again a pleasing one as I managed to maintain fairly even splits to finish the the second 2 lapper in 11:45. As the 2 laps equates to around 2.9km over some sandy and uneven terrain, I was very happy with the pace and consistency of the session. I then ran a comfortable warmdown lap of the lake with Blue Dog talking about GNW.

With tomorrow's race on and Belinda still feeling unwell, I headed out again around the 6km loop. I ran it a fraction under 5 minute/km pace and felt very comfortable. I did notice the humidity in the air and was thinking that if it was like this tomorrow, it would again slow a few people down like it did at Homebush last month.

Comments:
I think the humidity is a cert Horrie!

I empathise with Belinda - I've had 2 bouts of it over the last 5 weeks - hope whe is well soon.

Enjoy Striders ;-)

I hope the 10k went well Horrie. Those are good times for 2.9k - Sean is working wonders.

Get well soon Belinda.
