Keeping the momentum going

6/11/06

I had an hour on the program while Belinda had a rest day so I headed out and ran a nice and steady 10.5km loop in 55 minutes. The right knee (which is the good one) felt a little bashed up by Quarry Rd but no cause for alarm.

We both headed to SWEAT this morning. I had 4x1200m while Belinda had 4x800m on the program. I felt great through the warmup and drills. So was ready to rock and roll through the 1200s. I headed out at quite a firm pace and felt great from the outset. I was pleasantly surprised to stop the clock for the first rep at 4:32. I then concentrated on holding my form on the next 2 and was happy to maintain good pace to finish them both in 4:35. I wanted to finish the session on a positive note so was looking to make the last one my best. Pres, the manager of my footy team 24 years ago also decided on this strategy and was breathing down my neck for the first km. It was only towards the end that I was able to kick away from him to finish in 4:30. Sean then offered anybody who wanted to do an extra one the opportunity to have some fun. I couldn't resist even though I knew I spent my bickies on what I thought was the last one. As I knew it was going to be slower, I decided to dig deep and just work hard to hold the pace. Wasn't overly disappointed when I finished in 4:39 as it was still well under 4 minute/km pace. Belinda was happy to run her 800s in good time, averaging a tick over 5 minute/km pace.

Comments:
I can empathise with your knee Horrie - my calves are like 2 little wound up balls of sinew after the stairs on Saturday - how can our legs so quickly forget?

Nice work on the sub 4 pace on the 1200s - pace and distance seems to be the key.

Look out for that knee with GNW this weekend. No need for anything stupid. Nice speed on the 1200's as 2p said.

Horrie, I heard you were ripping it up in training, great stuff, see you at the weekend?

isnt it good when u think youre finished then the coach says 'one more!'

Sean always brings out the good ones. Well done for taking the bait Horrie.

Nice pace by Belinda for the 800s. All seems to be going well.
