PBs Galore at Central Coast Half

29/11/06

As I was in taper mode, I had a shortened Wednesday run. Today it was 8.3km in 38 minutes.

Belinda is soldiering on as usual and headed out to Centennial Park to hopefully meet up with the SWEAT girls but they were in taper mode as well and weren't there. So off she went for an hour and a half on her own, covering about 14-15km.

On the menu was laps of the lake fartlek. I had 3 laps whilst Belinda had 2. I had the company of Sarge, who was in town after a strategy meeting with Blue Dog for his upcoming Coast to Kosci run. That was until around 2 and a half laps when he then decided to get fair dinkum and put 100m into me before we finished.

Belinda ran her 2 in good form and was happy with how they went.

Sean had given Belinda a couple of days off as she has been building up the mileage recently so I headed out on my 6km loop on my own. I finished in 28 minutes definitely feeling the benefits of the taper.

3/12/06

We were up early and headed up to the Central Coast Half. I had targeted this run as a PB as I had enjoyed some good training and had overcome my problems from Glasshouse in the last month. I punched my recent best 10km of 41:50 into McMillans calculator and it gave me a time of 93:05. So I thought I would head out at 4:15/km pace and see what happened. The only problem was I had no idea on the pace I was running as I did not see a km marker until 18km. At the turnaround I noticed I was not far behind Blue Dog and Miss Gazelle who were both backing up from GNW. I also noticed that Gnome was closing in on me and was catching me with Johnny Dark not far behind him. I was a bit worried here as they talked pre race about running 95 minutes. I thought I was travelling a bit better than that. Not long after this, Gnome went past me running very strongly. A few kms later Johnny Dark went past as well. I tried to go with him as he encouraged me to but it was to no avail as the spring had gone out of the legs and it was now just a matter of trying to hold on and concentrate on form. In the meantime I noticed I was closing the gap on Blue Dog and finally got him about 2.5km from home. He asked me how the PB attempt was going and I told him I would get it if I could hold the pace I was running. I finished off the best I could and stopped my clock at 93:04. That McMillan fellow is pretty good, isn't he?

Had a couple of cups of OJ before I headed to the car to get some dry clothes on before heading back to the finish to see the rest of the field come in. Then as I was talking to Eagle and Aunty K, Belinda was finishing strongly with Bristol City FC chasing her all the way to the finish line to finish in a photo finish with a time around 1:56. So it was PBs all around in the H&B household. A very enjoyable outing for both of us.

Comments:
It was an absolute delight to see you both finish with PBs and then to share the breakfast table with you later. I'm glad you had a great day.

Congratulations on both getting PB's. You certainly worked hard for it with the wind and rain.
