Quarry Rd and return

24/12/06

Belinda and I headed out for the annual Christmas Eve Quarry Rd run I first organised for last year. Unfortunately, after being on my feet all the day before finalising Christmas shopping, the ankle blew up and I was unable to run.

Belinda headed out with Allison Lilley and ran very well to finish 2 laps in 3:23, with splits of 1:42 and 1:41. This was a 32 minute PB from last year's effort.

After having Christmas Day off, we drove to Centennial Park to do our SWEAT session in the afternoon due to having a massive sleep in. We had 2 laps of inside the white fence which totals 7.2km. Due to our daughter being out, Tim accompanied us to the session. The ankle did not feel that flash during the warmup and drills so I knew I could not run flat out. I decided to run laps of Mackay Oval until I had run 7.2km as this way Tim was not left on his own. I could feel myself limping quite noticably on the first couple of laps but got more fluent as the ankle warmed up. I ended running the distance in 33 minutes at an average pace of 4:41/km, which was quite pleasing. The ankle pulled up fine and I felt better for the run.

Belinda ran 2 laps of the inside white fence for her 7.2km. She managed to run her quickest time ever for 2 laps of Centennial Park and the first time under 40 minutes. She finished her 2 laps in 39:03 for a huge PB.

Belinda and I headed back out to Quarry Rd for our midweek long run. Belinda's hamstrings were very tight after her run yesterday so it took a while for her to get moving. We reached the Dural end in 55 minutes. We were heading back a bit quicker until Belinda had a fall just before the bridge. After checking that there was no major damage, we continued on to finish the run. We managed to get back to Stewart Ave in just under 55 minutes for a total time of just under 1:50. I was so happy to be back on the trails again and this reminded me to enjoy each run as you never know what is around the corner.
