Another PB falls - the last one standing
7/4/07
Having whittled the 10km PB for this running life down to within 33 seconds of the all time which was set in 1990, I was hopeful that I could shave it down to the old mark. I ignored all the doomsayers saying that the Domain course is tough and not to expect a PB and set my sights on the sub 40.
I got myself into a good position to start and tucked in behind Peter from SWEAT and we passed the 1km marker in 4:13. What the???? I knew it was uphill but the garmin beeped 20m before the marker. This is the way the run would pan out for the rest of it, with all the markers up to 4km being over by 20-80m. I had no idea what pace I was running. The uphill that we had to do 3 times just got harder each time and the 3rd time up I was moving like a turtle. This was confirmed by some of the only accurately marked km markers which gave me an 8:37 between 6 and 8km. When I got to 8km I decided to hammer it home as best I could, knowing that the sub 40 had gone. As a lot of the last 2km is either flat or downhill, I knew I could pick up some lost time here. I finally managed to pass this female triathlete who I had spent chasing the whole way a bit over a km from the finish. Then I managed to pass a few more in the final straight and was ecstatic to reach the finish line in 40:21, which gave me an all time PB of 3 seconds.
Splits at dodgy km markers were 4:13, 4:01, 4:04, 4:19, 3:41, 3:45, 8:37 (missed 7km), 3:59 and 3:39.

Woohoo!! Sensational Horrie - congratulations. A much deserved result. Looking forward to seeing you both in Canberra next weekend!
Huge congrats Horrie!!! I'm sure that sub 40 will be yours before the year is out.
Looking forward to catching up next weekend. Just hope I recognise the new slim line version :-)

Terrific result Horrie. All you need now is an accurate and favourable course and the sub 40 is in the bag.
Congratulation on the PB. It is incredible to think that you have beaten a previous PB set in 1990. You are a legend.

If todays conditions werent worth 30-45 seconds then I will give it up. An you still pbd on that course which is hard enough at the best of times. Looking good for next week, eyes on the prize mate! Nice to see you both this morning.

Congratulations on knocking off that last PB mate. Sensational in the conditions today. Sure to be sub 40 at North Head.
That's a very impressive effort, congrats, I hope I can keep improving. Reading about it in freezing Washington DC, it will give me a lift to keep the training effort up without the SWEAT boys.
Great effort and congratulations. Now all the PB's are this running life - who said we get slower as we get older!!!
That's a fantastic run, Horrie. It gives me much inspiration in the lead up to my own battles ahead. What beautiful timing to read this.
Thanks also for dropping by my blog. I greatly appreciate your support.
My best wishes to you for Canberra.

A huge congratulations Horrie! 1990 is a bloody long time ago, and to beat that time by 3 seconds is brilliant. Definitely worth all the sweat you've been doing in recent months.
I hope your head has recovered and you're ready for a 3hr 45min jog on Sunday. Allow extra time for water stops - it looks like being hot!
